Chapter 71: Hands Reunited

Zack and Jen stumbled forward, their bodies aching and their minds clouded. The vines that once bound them had withered away, but their ordeal was far from over. Even though they were free physically, the relentless nightmares had robbed them of their sight.

Each step they took was like wading through the depths of a twisted abyss. Their eyes, though tightly shut, revealed endless visions of torment. Shadows twisted and churned, forming monstrous shapes. Demonic whispers crawled through their minds, hissing words of fear and despair.

"You're alone..."
"They left you behind..."
"No one is coming..."

Zack gritted his teeth, clutching his trembling arms. His small frame shook, but he pressed on. The haunting whispers grew louder, but a single voice cut through the noise - soft yet commanding.

It was Angeleva.

"Zack," her voice echoed gently in his mind. "Trust me. Keep moving forward. I will guide you."

The boy's heart steadied. Even though his nightmares clawed at him, the warmth of her voice gave him the courage to continue.

"Jen is near. Step by step, you'll reach her."

Zack nodded, tears threatening to spill. His hands reached out, feeling for anything in his path. He stumbled over imaginary rubble, the nightmare still taunting him with visions of twisted demons and burning landscapes. But he held on.

On the other side, Jen felt the same torment. Her legs ached as she moved through the imagined wasteland. Every sound around her was a twisted echo of laughter and mockery. Yet, like Zack, she too heard Angeleva.

"Jen," the voice was soothing. "You're not lost. Keep moving. Trust my voice, trust your strength."

Jen's breathing grew steady. Despite the weight of fear crushing her, she took one shaky step forward, then another. The whispers hissed angrily, furious that their torment was weakening.

"Zack..." Jen whispered under her breath. "I'm coming. I'm not leaving you."

The two of them moved through the endless nightmare, their closed eyes making the visions even more terrifying. Demons loomed closer, their twisted forms snarling and clawing at the siblings. But none of it was real. Angeleva's voice was the only truth that remained.

"Left," she directed Zack, her words precise and calm.
"Right," she told Jen, ensuring their paths aligned.

Even with every ounce of fear still lingering, they obeyed.

Step by step.

The imaginary demons roared in frustration. The illusions twisted further, their grotesque faces distorting into even greater horrors. Yet Zack and Jen didn't stop. The residual determination within them - that spark of courage - burned just enough to keep them moving.

"You're almost there," Angeleva whispered with reassurance. "Stay strong. You're not alone."

The siblings continued forward, both trembling and exhausted. But even in the endless dark, they could feel it - a faint warmth. Not from the twisted nightmare, but from the connection that still bound them to their family.

They didn't know how much further they had to go, but they held on to that small, unwavering hope.

After almost 40 minutes...

Angeleva's wings trembled as she witnessed the agony Zack and Jen endured. Despite the torment, they had come so close. The invisible demons that plagued their minds had slashed at them, and the wounds now bled through to reality. The siblings' bodies were marked with crimson lines, each cut a result of their mental struggle. Still, they pressed on. Zack reached out, his small hands trembling as they brushed against the cold stone wall that separated him from Jen. Though his eyes remained closed, his soul felt her presence. "Jen..." he whimpered, his voice cracking. On the other side, Jen's fragile hands met the wall. She felt Zack's faint warmth through the stone. Her tears soaked her cheeks as her body throbbed in pain. "Zack... I'm here." They both longed to hold each other, to chase away the horrors that haunted them. But the wall remained unmoved - a cruel reminder of their separation. The twisted whispers laughed once more, mocking their suffering. "You'll never reach each other." "Surrender." "No one will save you." The despair weighed heavily upon them. Even with Angeleva's presence, the barrier felt insurmountable. Zack's small fists pounded against the stone weakly. Jen did the same, desperate, though knowing it was futile. From afar, Safari, Ian, and Olive felt it all. Ian clenched his fists, the sight breaking him. His camera, which he often used to document their adventures, now hung uselessly around his neck. For the first time, he couldn't capture the moment - he could only live it. "There has to be a way," Ian murmured. His voice shook with desperation. "There has to be..." But even Safari, strong and determined, had no answer. His fists remained tightly at his sides, his jaw clenched. The mighty warrior who faced countless monsters now stood powerless. Olive held onto Ian's sleeve, her own strength faltering. It was then that Ian's mind flickered with a memory. A distant voice from his childhood, one that had always guided him. "Unity can break barriers." The phrase echoed in his thoughts - words once spoken by his favorite celebrity, a magician known not for illusions but for inspiring people. Ian's eyes widened. "Unity..." Angeleva's sharp gaze caught Ian's sudden shift. "Ian?" she asked, her voice concerned. Ian's trembling hands curled into determined fists. "I remember something. Unity can break barriers. It's... It's something I believed in ever since I was a kid." Safari's brow furrowed. "What are you saying, Ian?" Ian's eyes burned with newfound resolve. "Maybe we can't break the wall with strength alone. But if we reach out to them - if we show them that they aren't alone - then maybe the wall won't stand a chance." Angeleva's expression shifted. Her mind raced, piecing together Ian's words. And in that moment, a plan crystallized. "Ian, you're right." Angeleva's wings lifted slightly, shimmering with a radiant light. "Unity is the key. If we combine our strength - our very will - we might be able to tear down what separates them." Safari's fists clenched in agreement. "Then we'll do it. Whatever it takes." Angeleva nodded firmly. "But we have to act fast. Zack and Jen are losing themselves to the torment. We need to remind them of who they are. Of who we are." The family stepped forward, surrounding Angeleva as her wings pulsed with warmth. Ian held tightly to Olive's hand, and Safari placed his massive palm on Angeleva's shoulder. They all closed their eyes, focusing on the bond that connected them. Angeleva's voice resonated gently. "Zack. Jen. We are with you." A golden light began to flicker around them. The shadows recoiled, hissing in defiance. But the light only grew stronger. "You are not alone." The warmth of their unity surged forward, intertwining with the weakened spirits of Zack and Jen. The siblings' hands pressed against the stone wall once more, but this time, they felt something new - a pulse, a heartbeat of strength. A force that could break through anything. Angeleva's wings glowed with a soothing radiance, enveloping the family as the connection deepened. Through her telepathic link, Safari, Ian, and Olive reached out, their voices carried across the fading void of Zack and Jen's torment. "Zack, Jen," Safari's deep voice rumbled with unwavering strength. "You're not alone. We're here." Ian's voice followed, his words laced with guilt but also determination. "I should've done better. But I won't let you go. Not now, not ever. You're our family." Olive's voice trembled, her words soft yet firm. "I know what it means to feel abandoned. But you two? You've never been alone. You gave me a place to belong. We'll bring you back." The warmth in their voices pushed against the shadows, but Angeleva wasn't done. Her voice was like a lullaby, a calm reassurance echoing in Zack and Jen's minds. "Zack, your heart has healed more than wounds. You've healed us, with every gentle touch and kindness. We need your light." Zack's trembling body felt the warmth seep into him. Through the pain, he could sense the sincerity in their words. His small hands pressed against the cold floor, desperately grasping for something, anything. "Jen," Angeleva's voice now reached out to her, "You've nourished us, not just with your cooking, but with the love you pour into everything you do. Every meal, every laugh - you've made us stronger." Jen's sobs softened. Even as the visions tried to overwhelm her, the words pierced through. The twisted whispers of abandonment no longer held their power. "We're a family." The shadows recoiled. The power of unity surged, and Angeleva's glowing wings pulsed with energy. She gasped, sensing the shift. "The wall is weakening." Angeleva's eyes flashed open, focusing on the source of the psychic barrier. The vibrations of their unity cracked the edges of the invisible wall, its once unbreakable force trembling. But it wasn't enough. She turned to Safari, her voice steady. "Safari, now. The barrier is vulnerable. Strike the floor beneath it." Safari's eyes gleamed with resolve. He nodded, tightening his grip on his weapon. "Devil Hammer Shock." He raised his massive hammer high, the air trembling from the surge of his power. With a roar, he slammed it down. A shockwave exploded from the impact, a ripple of sheer force that shattered the ground. Cracks raced through the stone, and the fractured barrier groaned in defiance before crumbling away. A deafening crash echoed through the chambers as the wall collapsed. Dust and debris swirled, but through the haze, Angeleva could see it - the chambers were now connected. The psychic barrier had fallen. "Zack! Jen!" Zack stumbled forward, his body weak and trembling. His eyes remained shut, the remnants of the nightmare still clinging to him. But through the pain, he could feel something - a warmth, a presence. On the other side, Jen gasped, clutching at her chest. She too felt it. The tug of familiarity. Angeleva guided them through her mind's link. "Just a few steps. You're almost there. Trust it. Trust yourselves." The siblings staggered blindly, their bodies bloodied and torn. The whispers screamed louder, but Zack and Jen ignored them. They could only think of one thing - each other. With trembling arms, Zack reached forward. Jen did the same. And then - their hands touched. A sob escaped from Zack as he clung desperately to Jen. Jen fell to her knees, pulling him into her embrace. They collapsed together, their bodies trembling, their tears mingling as they cried freely into each other's shoulders. The nightmares still clawed at their minds, but none of it mattered now. The only thing that remained was the comfort of each other's presence. "Jen..." Zack whimpered. "I... I thought I lost you." "Zack," Jen's voice broke. "I'm here. I'm right here." They held on tightly, refusing to let go. The horrors of the chambers tried to creep back in, but the warmth of their bond pushed it away. The torment had lost its grip.
